Academic Days is an event of 5-7 days focusing on an IEM topic, which the hosting Local Group’s university excels at. The name of the individual event could then be, for example, Academic Days: Finance or Academic Days: Strategic Marketing.

What distinguishes the Academic Days from other ESTIEM events is that the whole content is organized with the help of an Academic Mentor, who coordinates the academic content of the event, provides mentorship for the lectures, agenda...

The content of the event consists of theoretical knowledge from lectures and practical application through case studies, company visits, etc. The aim should not be to give a broad overview about a topic, but to provide the participants deep insights and understanding.

What do you need to organize?

  • Food, Transportation and Accommodation for all participants
  • Lectures during the day on the topic (could be given by professors or by students under the supervision of the Academic Mentor).

way in order to condense all the possible knowledge during this period, and if possible, some

practical exercises should be included, to help the participants assimilate the concepts.

LEAN SIX SIGMA

Lean Six Sigma is a methodology that relies on collaborative team effort to improve performance by systematically removing waste and reducing variation. It combines Lean manufacturing/Lean enterprise and Six Sigma to eliminate the eight kinds of waste (muda). Lean Six Sigma methodology used in many companies to eliminate waste and reduce variation, to improve corporate performance. Having a professional Green Belt certificate in Lean Six Sigma can give students a big head start in their careers. The ESTIEM Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Course aims to provide ESTIEMers an opportunity to obtain a high-quality Green Belt certificate already during their studies – current options outside of ESTIEM are both expensive and not focused on students.

Lean Six Sigma Central Course does not accept applications at the moment, check again soon!

Participants:  15 – 20 ESTIEMers & 3-5 Instructors
Time: August –  October 22′

Price:  Max 110€
Leader: Vasco Rodrigues

International Event - the Central Course

The event is usually 7 days long, of which 5 are working days. Participants will need to watch online videos, apply what they learned in examples provided during the training event, show their newly developed skills in a final case study and then get the chance to conduct their own Lean Six Sigma internship.

It is also possible to have an additional day for a company visit if needed. Here you can see the first draft of an Agenda.

What we are aiming for

  • Unlike most other projects in ESTIEM, our events always have the same agenda but therefore offer a lot of value to participants and a lot of potential to the LG.
  • What we are looking for in return is the will and motivation to not only host the Central Course and then stop being engaged with the topic, but to go one step further and strive for bringing your own first Local Course to your university and Local Group.
  • In order to do so you’ll also need the interest and dedication from a few members to apply for the event and sign up as instructors afterwards, so those members will be the first generation to deliver your Local Course.
  • This way your LG will even benefit a lot more than from simply having only one single international event.

What do you need to supply?

In order for you to make an easier decision and also to prepare you already for the organizational stuff, you can click here to read our BPD.

How can you apply?

If you want to get the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course to your university and challenge the way we teach and learn, please fill the Questionnaire for organizing a LSS Central Course in order to apply properly. A PowerPoint presentation is not required, if you still want to show us fancy pictures of your city, LG or other stuff you can still create a short PowerPoint.

Please note that important for our decision are the answers from the form. Information from the PowerPoint won’t be considered and filling the form is mandatory. If you don’t fill the form, your application is not valid for this period.

Deadline: Applications for Central LSS courses are ongoing. Complete your applications MAXIMUM 4 months before the course starts. The sooner, the better.

Apply now!

The main difference from the Central Course is that Local Courses are set up in your university, by your local instructors for your local members.

If your LG is permanently struggling with finding members or establishing yourself at university, you can also invite external IEM students to boost your popularity and visibility.

In case you possibly wouldn’t receive enough applications for a Local Course, you can negotiate with your neighboring LGs and go for a Regional Course first.

As long as you take the knowledge one step closer to your own LG or even other LGs you help us grow and you help ESTIEMers, as well as yourself, to develop.

We are aware that at this point you might not be really into the scope of given possibilities. Contact us for clarification and we can already talk about the best potential follow-up event for your LG after having an international event. If you need more specific information about Local Courses, please contact Juliana.Fernandes@estiem.org.

Why should you go for it?

Hosting your own Local Course afterwards comes along with many benefits:

  • Unique opportunity on an internationally acknowledged methodology
  • Attractive for members with rare time for international travelling
  • Being an exclusive association by also offering the Local Course to external IEM students
  • Increases the visibility of your Local Group on the campus
  • Reach out easily for corporate partners and establish a collaboration with professors/the university
  • Implement the course in the curriculum if possible

Summer Academy

Summer Academy is a service within the Personal Development Department that provides a chance to go on a retreat to discover one’s inner motivations and opportunities for growth under the guidance of an Academic leader. Summer Academy is known for being ESTIEM’s treasure.

Summer Academy Event Open Call will publish soon!

Participants: 8 – 18
Time: October –  November 22′

Price:  Max 120€
Leader: Cansu Gür

The context of the Seasonal Academies and the Service name

Summer Academy is the name of a service in the personal development department of ESTIEM, but it is also the name of the original event that used to happen since 2001 on summertime (hence the name Summer Academy). Thus it was kept as the service name, as it holds quite a legacy! Summer Academy is known for being ESTIEM’s treasure.

Now in the spirit of aiming high we kept the original concept of the event but  wanted to create more “seasonal academies” (e.i event happens in winter = Winter Academy, happens in Autumn= Autumn Academy, happens in spring =Spring Academy ) in order to:

- Give LGs more opportunities to organise the event during the year if it is more convenient for them.

- Give ESTIEMers more opportunities to experience such a life-changing event at least once during their ESTIEM journey.

The event concept:

We aim to create a space away from the usual lives of participants and regardless of which season of the year it, they shall have a “summer vacation” from their “everyday obligations” to allow themselves to embarque on a journey of self-discovery to gain more self-awareness and self-growth while developing their leadership skills and creating long-lasting friendships and strong bonds with their fellow ESTIEMers on a deeper level.

During the event, participants are all hosted in the same house in a remote area, for a period of 1-2 weeks, under the guidance of what we call an Academic Leader that challenges the participants’ mindsets and helps them to widen their perspectives to learn more about themselves. In other words the Academic leader is a professional in charge of the sessions’ content (facilitating the open discussions, workshops, training and reflection sessions, etc.) The Academic leader can be for example a personal development coach, a social/organisational psychologist, an Impact leader or an inspirational ESTIEM Alumni, etc.)

What do you need to organise this event?

  • It is crucial to be accommodated together in a remote location where participants can enjoy calm and a peaceful atmosphere (house in a remote location, in the outskirts of the city would be the perfect option)
  • It is also preferable to have a suitable working room for sessions and a kitchen for self-catering where participants could  cook for themselves.
  • Local organisers will be responsible for acquiring accommodation ,food ingredients for the participants and transportation from the meeting point to the House.
  • The Budget should contain the Professor's flight ticket
  • Before the event local organisers will be communicating with participants providing them with necessary information.

Why should your LG apply?

  • Easy to organise – all the content of the event will be prepared by  the Academic Leader.
  • “No organisers” – the main organisers from your LG are counted as participants, along with other international participants. Everyone is cooking together, cleaning together and participating in each session/ activity.
  • Support from the Summer Academy Team throughout the WHOLE process of the event before, during and after the event itself.

How to apply?

Application should cover the following topics:

  • Motivation
  • Dates when your LG can organise the event
    • Prediction of the budget:
      • Income: participation fee+sponsors
      • Expenses: Academic Leader’s  tickets, accommodation, food, transportation, activities.
  • Proposal for accommodation and location (provide pictures of the house if possible)
  • Eventual activities the LG may propose (city tour, night activities, hikes etc.)

Please submit the application through the Event Organization Google form until the 31st of August

If you have any questions or hesitations, please, text  the leader via leader.sac@estiem.org . Also we highly recommend you to approach us before sending the application, so that the Summer Academy Team can help you choose the best location and accommodation and give suggestions about the budget and answer any of your questions.
